Isometric paper uses three families of parallel lines at 60° to each other, forming a grid of small triangles that group into hexagons. How is this different from regular graph paper?
Standard graph paper only handles two dimensions cleanly. Isometric paper's 60° triangular grid lets you represent height, width, and depth all at true scale on a flat page.
Do I need special training to use it?
No — draw vertical lines for height as normal, and use the diagonal grid lines (not horizontal ones) for the other two axes. It takes a little practice but no special technique.
